Happy Days Are Here Again

If Jimmy Carter had a mouth full of smiling teeth, rest assured that so does his current successor.  We may not have a formula for victory in war, or hope of a legitimate economic recovery; we may be hocked up the ying-yang, and joined in woly headlock with the nuke-toting Taliban lovers in Islamabad; but we sure do have one cool cat smiling to the Moon in the Oval Office.

Note that no one actually speaks of the prospects for recovery any more.  The conversation is dominated instead by risk of double dip recession, not a comforting thought really, after the mega billions spent on stimulus.  Indeed, America now seems to stand alone in its belief that we can spend our way out of this mess, our more cautious European cousins having had enough of it.

The G-20 won't bow down to the American leader as we would have expected in the days of the Marshall Plan, or even when SDI was a big hit in Reykjavik.  Au contraire; bowing to foreign leaders has become très chic.  Telling others to go on a deficit spending binge just didn't get very far.

The Oil Slick President cannot be blamed for everything, nor should he be impeached for merely singing "Happy Days Are Here Again" every day, or the equivalent.  Still, he has only a total of four years to acknowledge that it is the American people he was elected to serve, not members of the alien invasion flowing freely over our southern border, not the Saudi king, not the Emperor of Japan.  Failure may result in ouster, let us remember.

Emergency funds are now being voted to pay for the war in Afghanistan.  Blue Diamond applauds the Congress for agreeing to find one expenditure which will not be loaded onto the backs of our progeny to mortgage their future.  As for the temporary lull in the stormy gold market, and the reduction in cost to less than $1,200 we say, strike up the band.

Matthew D. Green, violinist, inventor of the C-Clip®, and founder of The Violin School, is Vice President of Blue Diamond Gold Exchange. His favorite series include Standing Liberty quarters, Indian cents and Seated Liberty type. He deals directly with Boston’s premier importer of diamonds from cutters in Tel Aviv and has an unswerving eye for quality.

Steven S. Green, President of Blue Diamond, and author of "Anvil of Avalon: true history of Arthur's Dark Age Brythons", began trading silver in 1965 and considers the present gold to silver ratio ludicrous. An advocate of large denomination pieces, Steve emphasizes proof dollars and gold twenties. In diamonds, he honors only the Gemological Institute of America certificate and cautions against the encroachment of lax standards in coin certification nowadays. Keenly aware of the trends in today's financial markets, Steve encourages his clients to take lessons from history in order to invest wisely for the future.
