Blue Diamond Reflections

Roaring Twenties

They're back.  The American Double Eagle is back in style.

If coin prices are a roller coaster ride, twenty dollar gold pieces are Coney Island.  It may have taken a couple of years, with numismatic gold struggling to establish a normal trading range, but it finally happened.  Prices for twenties have stabilized.

This is not to say they will never become erratic in the future; they almost certainly will.  It is difficult to plan a portfolio for investment growth, however, with fluctuations of, sometimes, two hundred dollars per week, and that phase is over, for the moment.

If gold is good, you can bet on the performance of Double Eagles over time.  It may sound cliché, but they are not making any more of them.  The fact that the gold Eagle has an obverse designed to resemble the Saint Gaudens twenty actually adds honor to both coin and sculptor, but does not add one single coin to the available supply of genuine twenty Saints.  Pity the poor twenty Liberty, which enjoys no such reincarnation.

With a fine gold content of .9675 troy oz., it is convenient to peg the average Double Eagle to the spot price of gold, adjusted upward for the collector value.  These premiums were on a binge, and now that they have come back down to Earth, Blue Diamond is pumping out much finer quality coins than last year.  Here's something into which you can confidently sink your teeth.  Our generation should pause to review the calm, morally sober lifestyle of the last full decade when these were the real money.  Rah rah rumble seats and running boards, them was the good old days.

Matthew D. Green, violinist, inventor of the C-Clip®, and founder of The Violin School, is Vice President of Blue Diamond Gold Exchange. His favorite series include Standing Liberty quarters, Indian cents and Seated Liberty type. He deals directly with Boston’s premier importer of diamonds from cutters in Tel Aviv and has an unswerving eye for quality.

Steven S. Green, President of Blue Diamond, and author of "Anvil of Avalon: true history of Arthur's Dark Age Brythons", began trading silver in 1965 and considers the present gold to silver ratio ludicrous. An advocate of large denomination pieces, Steve emphasizes proof dollars and gold twenties. In diamonds, he honors only the Gemological Institute of America certificate and cautions against the encroachment of lax standards in coin certification nowadays. Keenly aware of the trends in today's financial markets, Steve encourages his clients to take lessons from history in order to invest wisely for the future.
